Priority Skills NL is tailored for foreign workers with at least 1 year of experience in the last 10 years in specialized in-demand occupations (including doctors, specialized nurses, software engineers, AI developers, and aquaculture technicians) or recent Memorial University graduates holding a PhD or Master’s in designated STEM disciplines. Candidates submit an Expression of Interest questionnaire, and those scoring high enough receive an invitation from the province to apply directly for nomination.

For the Express Entry Skilled Worker stream, candidates in NOC TEER 0 or 1 positions require minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7, while those in TEER 2 or 3 require CLB 5. For the Priority Skills NL pathway, minimum CLB 5 is required. For general Skilled Worker applications in TEER 4 and 5 semi-skilled occupations, the minimum language benchmark is CLB 4.

Newfoundland and Labrador maintains one of the fastest provincial decision benchmarks in Canada, targeting approximately 25 business days for complete files submitted through the online application portal. Once nominated, Express Entry-linked applications are processed federally by IRCC in approximately 6 to 7 months.

Applicants must demonstrate available, unencumbered liquid funds sufficient to cover living expenses for themselves and accompanying family members during their initial settlement in the province. Maintaining approximately 3 to 6 months of living expenses in an accessible bank account is standard for international applicants.
